Martin Rolt

Residing in West Sussex and largely self-taught, I am the creator of original and beautiful seascapes and beach scenes, rich in atmosphere and texture, taking inspiration from 10 years spent living just a stone’s throw from Hove beach. Sometimes dark, the paintings offer the viewer a sense of beauty, solitude, space and calm. The viewing experience is as much about the feelings and moods evoked, implied and suggested as the actual paintings themselves. My paintings have sold to private collectors both domestically and internationally, including British film and TV actor Adrian Lester (Hustle), as well as in the corporate world. My land and seascape paintings are also available as framed miniatures. The smallest is approximately 2.75 inches square with various sizes up to and including 8x10 inches. More recently I have taken a keen interest in the pen and ink 'stipple' or 'pointillism' style of drawing. This technique involves the use of specialised pens with varying sizes of pen nib. The drawings are made up entirely, 100%, of pen ink dots. The solid sections of the drawings are also ink dots which join together to produce a beautiful 'aged' or 'mottled' effect. Stipple drawing is an incredibly slow process that allows for great detail to be achieved and the finished work has a near 3D quality. Some of my drawings using this technique are finished with 24 carat Gold Leaf. The drawings are also available as numbered limited edition fine art giclee prints. This is my future.
