Professionally framed. This pen and ink ‘stipple’ drawing is made up entirely, 100%, of pen ink dots. The drawing took a total of 143 hours to complete. Based on 4 dots per second this drawing is made up of approximately 2 million ink dots.
The drawing is based upon, and a celebration of, the artwork of 2 Joy Division album covers; Unknown Pleasures and Closer. The cover of Unknown Pleasures depicts a data plot of signals from a radio pulsar. The cover of Closer shows a part of the Appiani family tomb in Genoa’s Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno. The drawing is an expansion and amalgamation of the two.
Drawing Size: 27x36cm – Framed Size: 56x65cm – Frame Mount Border width: 10cm wide on all edges.
Glazing: Clarity+ Premium Synthetic Glass. Professionally framed: 52mm wide wood with a black stain finish. The frame mount is white.
Stipple drawing is an incredibly slow process that allows for great detail to be achieved and the finished work has a near 3D quality. I time each drawing session to be able to know how long each drawing takes to complete. This was an often asked question, the answer to which I was always previously uncertain, though I knew it was a ‘long’ time.
I use Sakura Pigma Micron drawing pens in all of my pen and ink drawings. The pens have become the defining standard for reliable, permanent, archival quality ink. The archival quality ink is acid-free, chemically stable, waterproof, and fade resistant.
