A couple of years ago I watched a documentary about the journeys of asylum seekers from the Middle East and Africa. Hard enough to leave your family and home behind but his young man had been in the UK for three years supported by a family in London while he worked and studied, sadly much to everyone’s surprise he was turned down . It was the look of abject hopelessness that moved me to paint him. I often wonder where he is now.
